"Tubular Bells"

50th Anniversary project

Tubular Bells, the iconic, progressive rock, minimalist, instrumental masterpiece composed by Mike Oldfield in 1972, and the very first album released on the brand new Virgin Records in 1973, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2023. With an estimated 15 million albums sold world-wide, and made even more popular for the use of its opening refrain in the movie The Exorcist, Oldfield’s Tubular Bells is groundbreaking in every way. For the 23-24 concert season, the world-renowned and innovative Dublin Guitar Quartet has created its own arrangement of the two-part work for guitar quartet, but expanding outward to feature a multi-instrumental climax to Part I, including acoustic guitars, electric guitars, electric bass, mandolin, keyboards, glockenspiel and orchestral chimes (tubular bells). The work also includes a special guest narrator who can be a well-known, local personality from your city. The 2019 premiere of the group’s version quickly sold out Dublin’s famous Whelan’s music space and we’re certain your audience will have a memorable experience of this 50thanniversary tour.
